Daisies Meets John Deere
This is a sad day. Despite valiant efforts by dozens of blogs and web sites to rally the faithful, ABC has finally decided to kill “Pushing Daisies.” The press release doesn’t actually use the word ‘canceled,’ but PD’s odds of return or survival make the proverbial snowball’s look like a sure thing.
This is one of very few series on current TV that actually requires the use of a brain…and it’s canceled. Yet ‘reality’ shows - a format that demands the possession of no sentient depth whatsoever - are left to flourish and tarnish the world. Whatever the ABC suits are currently smoking, I might need to give it a try; To be so totally abstracted from conscious reality must be a really nice ride.
ABC probably decided PD’s modest ratings proved it was too involved or ‘urbane’ to attract a big [profitable] following, so it was killed. With its demise the median landscape of American TV got a little more dumb. And according to the ABC suits, so did you.
