NBC Gives Us the Bird

So it appears we are to be treated to two Turkeys this year? The one you’re all enjoying today, and the remorseless fiasco of unvarnished incompetence that will be known to those few who survived its infliction as, “Rosie Live.”

Less than 5-million people bothered to watch, all of whom are no doubt resting in a darkened room today, valiantly striving to wash the experience from their minds. And that resplendent repository of erudite regard, the blogosphere, has been less than kind; One commenter called the host, “A no-talent has-been. Never had talent in the first place. Evil, vile and ugly.”…And that’s one of the kinder reviews!

Apart from being a desperate attempt at the unwelcome revival of an unwanted career, the singular reason why that pitiable show ever even saw daylight was clear from scene one; Profit. Not entertainment, not competition, just avaricious, unvarnished and predictable greed. With their ratings in free-fall, NBC created this turgid debacle to attract and exploit the voluminous audience they have neither the wit, regard or elementary cognizance to appeal to any other way. The result made reality television look svelte and urbane. And there’s no worse insult than that.

There were even plans to expand the entire witless travesty into a series, if the ratings showed promise. Let us pray that’s no longer the case. Both Ms O’Donnell and the cranial inadequates who conceived the whole mess should now be escorted to the sidewalk and left there to pine. Barring the unmerited salvation of a federal bail-out, NBC will continue this course of clueless decline until they finally devolve into a deserved singularity and can pollute our lives and our airwaves no more.

And when that day comes, I, for one, have no plans to mourn.
