One Change We Truly Need

mrobamaA new day begins, and with it a resplendent new chapter in the progress and history of this already remarkable country. For the first time in 233 years the nation has a democratically chosen and duly anointed black man as its leader.

The question now is, who has the intellectual advancement to identify him as such?

For over ten years the American media has enabled the widespread awareness and regrettable adoption of a surrogate label for those whose complexion is shared by their wonderful new CEO: “African American.” With Mr. Obama now in office, it’s time this was stopped.

Born from the self-serving dictates of ‘Political Correctness,’ this condescending epithet has not one shred of foundation, either in mandate or law, and is therefore as impractical as it is unenforceable. Yet many employed in the media – most of whom are the opposite shade – grasp any chance they can find to indulge in its use as onanistic proof of their ‘sensitive’ credentials.

Being black is no reason for worry or shame; With the herculean struggles and remarkable progress achieved by Dr. King and his friends foremost among them, history affords almost limitless proof. However, to deliberately pursue a life of such intellectual anemia that you truly believe every person who is that color is so inherently fragile and intellectually shallow that merely mentioning the fact in their presence would leave a deep and abiding psychological scar must rank among the most insulting suppositions in the vast majority of this species’ history.

The solution is simple; Those guilty of enforcing this insult on a swathe of creation that rarely includes them should either create an equally risible tag, like ‘Oatmeal Americans,’ for use on those to whom their original affront cannot be applied, or abandon this indulgent quest as our self-appointed  intellectual guardians and return to the deserved obscurity from which we were never even asked if we wished their arrival.

The glorious pageant we witnessed in Washington will be the source and inception of numerous freedoms and overdue change in this proudly diverse and wonderful nation. Let’s add one more change to the list and free our minds and our media from the rulings and dictates of the faceless few who take reprehensible pleasure in this selfish dictation. If you’re willing to help, leave a comment, then talk to your friends and let’s see if we have any hope of success.

Personally, I fear we may well be too late.
