With her ascent to stardom complete and that magical wizard moving on pretty soon, Emma Watson needed a new way to shine, and she’s found it. She’s now the new face of upscale British clothing firm, Burberry.
The 19-year old actress makes her debut in the fall/winter catalog released by the highly respected brand in the UK this week, and the awkward Hermione is nowhere in sight; Swaddled in iconic Burberry check, a grown-up and confident Emma poses alone and with others, her eyes enhanced by dark, smoky make-up and her hair lightly mussed by a capricious breeze.
Since her debut in Potter in 2001, Emma has garnered a strong reputation for style and Burberry quickly seized on their chance, “Having admired Emma for some time, she was the obvious choice for this campaign. She has a classic beauty, a great character and a modern edge, and made the whole shoot feel like a picnic on the Thames.” gushes Christopher Bailey, Burb’s creative director.
The shoot was captured by noted fashion photographer, Mario Testino at Burberry’s global headquarters in the uber-chic Knightsbridge, just a stone’s throw from Harrods. In one shot, Emma is backed by a view of London’s languid main artery, the Thames river, adding a historic theme which, according to the effusive Mr. Bailey, ’reflects the rich history and modernity of the Burberry brand.”
In a break with this long-honored history, Burberry also announced they will debut their major collection at London’s Fashion Week in September, thus ignoring Milan where they’ve shown for eight years.
