Kiefer Sutherland stalked by NY Post?

The New York Post is reporting that Kiefer Sutherland, recently accused of head-butting a designer while under the influence, was spotted recently, relaxing in New York’s fashionable Lower-East side venue, ‘Libation.’

The London-born star, 43, was accompanied by his daughter, Sarah Jude, and was reported to be drinking Scotch on the rocks, while conversing with staff.

…So here’s my question — Why is this even a story??

The man is having a quiet drink in a public bar with his own daughter – who’s over 21 – bothering no-one, and chatting amiably with the staff.

A lot of stars complain about press intrusion, and given invasive, pointless fluff pieces like this, it’s not hard to agree.

Just how desperate are the NY Post for a story?

Slumdog Millionaire star to save 24

In an unexpected melange of not one but two recent stories, Hollywood Reporter informs us that Anil Kapoor, who achieved worldwide acclaim as the smooth-talking show host in ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ has just inked a deal to be a featured performer in the next, undeserved season of Fox’s dire drama, 24.

Already a legend in his home country, having starred in more than 100 Bollywood films, Mr. Kapoor will play a Middle Eastern leader visiting the US on a peacekeeping mission, and has clearly prepared for this forthcoming foray by securing a management deal with the good folks at ICM.

I’ve said for some time that 24 is at least four seasons over its prime, and this news only proves it. Mr. Kapoor is a fine actor, but the decision by Fox to use a star from its Oscar-winning hit to revive a once dynamic drama that is now getting hosed is proof that such fears have foundation.

I wish Mr. Kapoor great success in this venture. With 24′s recent ratings retreat, he’ll need more than a life-line to pull this one off.

Don’t Go Green – Just Go!…

The New York Times is reporting that the Fox [melo]drama series, “24” is to become the first ‘carbon neutral’ television series. To offset the environmental impact of all those gratuitous car crashes and gun fights they intend to pay strange little men in India to run wind-farms that will balance the karma, and hence save the planet.

I’m not sure about being carbon neutral, but the show is certainly interest neutral these days. Currently limping through its seventh season, this initially strong concept has lost any trace of the adrenaline-soaked action and breathless vivacity of earlier runs; The plots are mundane and melodramatic, the bad guys are wafer-thin two-dimensional stereotypes and the story’s conclusion is utterly foreseeable weeks before it deigns to occur.

Kiefer Sutherland, like his Father, is an engaging and talented Actor – and deserves far better than this. And so do the viewers. The clueless, overpaid suits who make these decisions probably have rose-tinted visions of their typical fan; all farmhouse sinks and fair-traded sweaters. Do they truly believe such a being exists?

It’s time the clock on this anemic charade was run down to zero and stopped. What’s your opinion on that?

Don’t Go Green – Just Go!…

Shake, Rattle and…Roll ‘em!

Tuesday’s earthquake only lasted about 15 seconds – and I must confess to being somewhat dismayed that none of its Earth shuffling influence made it up here — but it apparently caused some major discomfort in parts further south…

The “Big Brother” crew, located in Studio City, were close to the epicenter and the cast were seen scrambling for cover when the shaking started. The whole house is actually built on a sound-stage — so it’s almost as fake as some of the inmates boobs?? — and as those inside are forbidden any form of outside contact the Producers were reduced to telling them what was happening by yelling the news at them through Bull-horns.

…You couldn’t make this stuff up??

Many of the cast are not even from California, so this was the first time they’d experienced a real, live quake. That perky Viewer’s favorite, Holly was caught on a sun-bed in only her undies when the fun started. I only wish I could be sure this proved the intellectual pygmies responsible for the show had defined a brave new policy to make people watch…but I doubt they possess the intuitive skills.

But the cameras never stopped. The show is streamed live online 24/7, so the cast had to return to ‘work’ as soon as the world calmed down. If they could only equal in relevance what they displayed in commitment, more people might find a reason to care.

The last 24-hours in the life of Jack Bauer seemed like eternity.

Only Fox could transform a taught, engaging, peerlessly well-written drama into Days of Our Lives with occasional gun play. This season was pitiful.
