Of course, the big snag is the cost – Tickets for some star’s live shows are well over $100 and that’s forcing a lot of fans to give up the live experience and settle for CD’s and TV spots.

Good news for concert fans

John signed the ‘Double Fantasy’ LP on December 8th, 1980 as he left New York’s iconic Dakota building in Manhattan at about 5pm to attend a recording session.

When John and his wife, Yoko Ono returned at around 10.50pm, Chapman shot him four times in the back. John was rushed to the Roosevelt Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival at 11:07 pm.

He was just 40-years old.

The album was found near the Dakota’s front doors by a janitor and passed to the FBI as evidence. It was later returned and is now being sold by a dealer.

“The album is the most extraordinary artifact in rock-and-roll history,” Gary Zimet modestly told the Post. “It has Lennon’s signature on the cover and Chapman’s forensically-enhanced finger prints on the sleeve. I originally sold it in 1999, but it’s back up for sale.”

And the avaricious seller of this tasteless memento wants his name kept a secret – with good reason;

“The current owner doesn’t want to be named because he’s received death threats.,” Gary reveals.

Yoko later had John cremated and scattered his ashes in Central Park, where the ‘Strawberry Fields’ memorial now stands. Her response to this tawdry transaction is not yet known, but it’s pretty sure neither she nor any true Beatles fan would ever condone or support it.

John Lennon killer’s signed LP goes on sale at $850,000

A group of scientists at Knome labs in Massachusetts tested the 61-year old rock-god’s DNA and found several genetic mutations that have let him survive substance abuse that would put any normal life-form on a mortuary slab.

“Some of them we’ve never seen before,” said Nathaniel Pearson, a geneticist who is part of the team.

But the news is not even vaguely surprising to America’s Got Talent judge and Ozzy’s wife of 28-years, Sharon Osbourne;

“I’ve always said that at the end of the world there will be roaches, Ozzy and Keith Richards,” she explained, laughing. “He’s going to outlive us all. That fascinated me – how can his body endure so much.”

Ozzy has a history of alcohol and drug use that boggles the mind; He once admitted to doing LSD every day for two years, and says he drank booze ‘like water.’ And the scientists say his mutations are largely why he endured all that and survived.

“He has a tendency for alcohol dependency that’s around six times higher,” says Knome co-founder Jorge Conde. “He also has an increased risk for cocaine addiction. If anyone else had done as much as he has, they’d have been hooked. Or dead.”

Ozzy also has twice the risk of hallucinations if he smokes pot. But he calmly admits he mixed so many drugs, he didn’t even know if pot was the cause. And the study truly amused him;

“I was curious,” he admits. “Given the swimming pools of booze I’ve guzzled, not to mention all the cocaine, morphine, pills, LSD,…you name it – there’s really no plausible reason why I’m alive,” he told a British newspaper recently.

But it’s not all good news; Ozzy now suffers from a constant tremor similar to Parkinson’s disease, and his hearing is almost gone. But whether these were caused by the drugs the doctors can’t tell…

Ozzy Osbourne ‘a mutant’ claim Knome researchers

The adolescent campaign of teases and self-serving denials began when Mariah, 41, was spied at the ‘Southern California Reproductive Center’ in Beverly Hills – which is a top-rated fertility clinic.

That was on Mother’s Day. Now it seems the treatments she was so coy about getting have resulted in twins.

“Mariah is gushing that she’s going to have twins.” a source tells the Enquirer. “Mariah and Nick both want a big family.”

Now, bearing in mind it took MC and Nick almost two months to stop this infantile teasing and tell fans the truth, the next part of this shameful PR campaign is tackier still:

“If & when my wife is ready to make any announcements about private matters she will do it personally,” Nick sneered via Twitter on Wednesday.  “Thanks for being respectful.”

Respectful?? How about showing one grain of ‘respect’ for the people who have paid for every single thing you and your ungrateful, game-playing spouse have eaten, drunk, worn, lived in or touched for two years at least;

Your fans don’t deserve to be played with like this, therefore neither you nor your wife deserve fans.

Mariah Carey proves she’s just one more diva

I’m talking about the seemingly unending swathe of mediocre performers who are so irreparably inept, yet driven by ego they engage in one risible, lamentable and inexcusable publicity stunt after another to achieve notoriety and unwarranted wealth by exploiting and insulting the very people they should regard as the single most important life-forms on this planet – the few blameless souls who even know they’re alive: Their fans.

We need a list which, once one of these dim-bulbs is rightfully placed on it, renders them effectively invisible to all modern media. No interviews, no gossip, no exposure at all – no matter what slick yet desperate stunt they might try to provoke it.

After a short time of such treatment it’s my belief those who face this position will either develop some definable talent – at last – or quit ‘showbiz’ altogether and seek out a job they can actually do; Thus freeing both the media’s time and the public’s attention to focus on those comparatively rare beings who possess both a talent and the willingness to work and thereby deserve the reward.

I’ll start the list:–

Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Tila Tequila, Heidi Montag [and her hamster-haired cohort,] Madonna, Jon Gosselin and Jennifer Aniston.

If you can think of others – and there are dozens – add them as comments and let’s get that list made, then we’ll all get some peace…

Hollywood needs a new blacklist

The 35-year Puerto Rico-born actor has already made one PSA in support of suicide prevention, but this time he stars in a video supporting PETA’s campaign to end the sickening and barbaric practice of using animals for fashion.

“Exotic animals are mostly unknown to us,” he says in the video. “And so is what they suffer before being turned into belts and bags. You can help stop the suffering. Anything you have that is made from animal skins can be made without,” the message goes on.

The video cuts between scenes of Joaquin talking and clips that show just a few of the ways in which snakes, alligators and other reptiles are bludgeoned to death and even prematurely skinned to be turned into shoes, boots, handbags, jackets and belts – all to feed the vanity of those who have neither their beauty, nor the IQ to care.

I have not eaten meat or worn leather in more than two decades, and the brutal and brainless abuse and its motives that are undoubtedly displayed in this film – which I would never watch – are one reason why.

For the ghoulishly curious who have not recently eaten, you can watch the PSA here. But PETA don’t pull their punches so don’t say you weren’t warned…

Joaquin Phoenix stars in brutal PETA fur ad

Since he began tweeting on February 24 the 46-year old host has garnered 555,441 followers – and counting. But he’s followed no-one – Until now.

“I’ve decided to follow someone at random,” he tweeted yesterday. ”She likes peanut butter and gummy dinosaurs. Sarah Killen, your life is about to change,” read Conan’s newest tweet – only his tenth in two weeks.

And he was right – In 24-hours the formerly anonymous Michigan resident saw her account‘s followers rise from 3 to 11,730 – all due to Conan.

But unlike most of the celebrities Coco could have followed, were he that dumb, Sarah is using the overnight fame to help other people – She’s planning to walk 60-miles in 3-days to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and asked her new fans to donate to the cause.

And true to the spirit of Conan’s disciples, they did – RBR says she’s raised over $1,200 in one day.

Herself a long-time fan of Coco, Sarah’s also planning a wedding in September, and would love her feathery friend to drop by;

“We were only going to invite, like, twenty people. So if he came it could be as big as he wanted,” she told MTV. “He could bring anyone he wanted. He could have more people there than I do.”

She was also asked by the scribes if she thought Coco should start a new show?

“He definitely needs to. Definitely.” she enthused. “He has no idea what he did for me. Just the one day, this is the most awesome day ever!”

Now that’s a charming story, don’t you think? Whatever your views on Conan’s exit from NBC, the man has real class. Most people would have given withering interviews to anyone who would listen [and pay,] bemoaning their treatment, threatening lawsuits and demanding redress.

But not Coco – He picks a random tweeter and changes her life, and she in turn is using that fame to benefit others. And that’s a rare and very welcome event.

As for Conan’s own future path, Ticketmaster’s computers are now buckling under the influx of orders for his newly-announced live show in Phoenix on April 30th, with a nationwide tour after that. So the man is by no means out of the game.

And if he could choose a few more people like Sarah, the result could truly show NBC for the clueless, brainless, ratings-bound droids all his fans now know they are…

Conan O’Brien picks a feathery friend on Twitter

Jude, 36, has vowed to step-up and support the new child if the alleged mother – a 24-year old model named Samantha Burke [whom no-one had heard of last week] – is proved to be pregnant by him. But his request for DNA proof has upset the Burke family, who are clearly eager that Jude should just shut up and pay, “To say this family is mad at that man is an understatement,” says Samantha’s grandma. ‘He has behaved as less than an English gentleman.”

The DNA test could be carried out now, but as the mother is already seven-months pregnant there’s apparently some risk to the baby. And the process might also induce early labor – which would cut short her fame. So for eight weeks there’s no proof either way, “At the moment Jude doesn’t know he’s the father; He thinks he is, but he wants to be sure,” a friend of the actor told the UK’s Daily Mail. “If it is his baby, he’ll be there for her every step of the way.”

With typical earnings of $3-million a movie, that could cost Jude a fortune. Samantha’s newly-hired attorney has already said she now wants ‘a sizable payout,’ plus a cut of his income for the rest of his life. And that would be in addition to the $6-million he’s just had to pay to get ex-wife, Sadie Frost’s talons removed from his neck.

Jude has told friends he did have a brief fling with Samantha while on location in New York for his new film, ‘Sherlock Holmes’  last December. But he said they only went to bed once, and that he was too drunk at the time to remember much else.

Samantha, however, is not so confused; In a statement read to the press by her new attorney, she says the family “can affirm that Jude has been responsive and supportive, and we know he will remain so once the baby is born.” The statement goes on to say that, “Jude and Samantha remain committed to the health and well-being of this child.”

And if all goes to plan, Samantha may soon get the chance to display that commitment. Every single month when she picks up her mail.

Maybe it’s me, but I think this is odd: The ‘health and well-being’ of any child is more certain with two loving parents both there in the home; But neither Samantha nor Grandma want the actual Jude – They don’t ask for marriage,  commitment or a father who’s there — All they are after is a big slice of his cash.

At seven months pregnant, there are eight weeks to go. Then she either earns millions of dollars, or worldwide contempt. Let’s just wait and see how that goes…

Jude Law a target of shakedown?

Freddie Glenn, 52, who is now serving life in a Colorado prison for the sadistic rape and murder of actor, Kelsey Grammer’s sister, Karen in 1975, was denied a  parole for the sickening crime. Mr. Grammer was prevented from attending by bad weather, but instead sent a letter that was read to the court.

Addressed to Robert Russel, the now retired Colorado DA who put Glenn behind bars for the murder, the note made it clear that the mental scars from Glenn’s crime are still fresh in the minds of the family, “I am saddened that I missed this opportunity to be at the hearing,” Grammer wrote. “I only hope that it does not result in turning things against my sister or the victims in this case.”

Kelsey, 54, went on to portray his sister as “smart, good and decent,” and explained the depth of the trauma that Glenn’s crime had since caused. The actor recalled that, on the night of her murder, 18-year old Karen was excited about an upcoming visit to Florida to be with her folks.”Instead, she was abducted by a group of animals. She was raped by them, savaged by them, and finally butchered by them.” Grammer wrote. “This is a butcher. This is a monster. Is it possible for him to live on the outside without returning to his old ways?”

And the Grammer family is no stranger to tragedy; In 1971, Kelsey’s father was murdered in the Virgin Islands, and two of his stepbrothers later died in a fluke shark attack. But his sister’s loss still causes Kelsey great pain. ”She had so much to live for. I miss her. I was her big brother; I was supposed to protect her. It destroyed my Grandmother, who died three years later. My Mother was broken by it, and continues to live with a grief that has colored her remaining years.”

Some would counsel forgiveness and Kelsey has tried, but with little effect; “Forgiveness allows me to live my life. But I can never escape what happened,” he wrote. “I can never accept the notion that he can pay for that nightmare with anything less than his life. We all make choices. He made his. Surely a man who has killed so many must never take a single breath as a free man.”

After a brief deliberation, the Colorado Department of Corrections denied Glenn’s parole. Spokeswoman Katherine Sanguinetti said Glenn won’t now be eligible again until 2014 – when he’ll be almost sixty.

Kelsey Grammer letter keeps killer in jail

With a performance of scenery-chewing bravura so deftly delivered in NBC’s ’30 Rock,’ the famously liberal Hollywood star has subtly rebooted a stagnant career, and now wants to turn all the new-found attention into a Congressional bid for mid-2012. “The desire is there, that’s one component,” he told a reporter for Playboy. “The other component is opportunity.”

Asked if one option might be to take over when that other Hollywood actor vacates Sacramento, Alec was quite clearly reluctant, “But I would have to live in California,” he said, clearly choked by the thought. “And who wants to live in California??”

As for who would be his ideal opponent, Alec’s first choice is Joe Liebermann, the former conservative Democrat. But Joe’s from Connecticut, and the 51-year old actor’s roots and first love are firmly focused on his hometown of New York. “Here anything can happen,” he said. “People get offered lucrative deals and want to make money for their retirement – They mess up. Unfortunately, an opportunity for me may mean bad things for someone else.”

And the man knows about messing up – During a bitter custody battle with ex-wife, Kim Basinger in 2002, Kim’s lawyers leaked a voice-mail in which Alec called his 12-year-old daughter a “thoughtless little pig.”

On the upside, his fitness for politics is just as unvarnished; When his SNL tenure gave him the chance to meet Sarah Palin, he unofficially re-christened her, ‘Bible Spice’ – but was quick to admit he wouldn’t want hers to be the finger that got close to the button.

With SNL teammate, Al Franken now in the Senate and ‘House’s Kal Penn [Dr. Kutner] being released from the show to promote the arts in the White House, Alec is certainly on the cusp of a trend. But this is the man who, on his Huffington blog, called former-VP, Dick Cheney, ‘a lying, thieving Oil Whore,’ and ‘a murderer of the US Constitution.’

So his sense of diplomacy might just need a tweak before he reaches D.C.

After Al Franken, could Alec Baldwin be next?

Rupert, whose work as Ron Weasley has made him a millionaire at the age of just 20, is quite coy on the news, “A lot of people think there’s something going on between us because I have to kiss Emma on film.” he says. “I’ll be honest – it’s not something I’m dreading. As for who has the worst crush on her – me or Radcliffe – I’d rather not say.”

But Rupert confirms that the much-lauded smooch, shown in ‘Half-Blood Prince,’ which bows on July 15, was a ‘weird’ experience. “We’ve known each other for ten years, so it was a bit like kissing my sister,” he told News reporters.

That must be one smokin’-hot sibling.

But not all his success has been schmoozing and spells; The redheaded actor, who has a deep fear of spiders, has also experienced the down-side of fame, “It’s taken me years to get used to being recognized in the street,” he admits. “But the most terrifying thing was a newspaper photo of a book-burning in the deep south. There was picture of me on the fire, because those folks thought the films endorsed witchcraft. That’s when it hit me how big all this had become.”

On the upside, Mr. Grint, who earns $6-million a film, has now left his hand-prints at Grauman’s Chinese Theater, alongside most of the Hollywood greats.

But Rupert has not let either fame or the money affect him too much; While most famous actors have fleets of fast cars, Rupert’s transport of choice is a broken-down pickup, and a working ice-cream truck for when he needs fun.

And he’s also no fool about love, “I know I could use the fame to meet women, but I don’t want to meet a girl who’s trying to take advantage of that. And I don’t Google myself because the results are too scary.”

You have to love it – At an age when most of us were seeking a treatment for acne, he has more money than most of his fans put together, and women just standing in line. Oh, that we all had his problems…
